In this session filmed exclusively for CV Academy, Ben Foster of London-based grassroots organisation Bloomsbury Football focuses on developing his players’ movements off the ball.

Assistant coach Jazmin Whitehead-Shakes begins the session with a warm-up comprised of dynamic stretches, reaction games and ball-mastery exercises. Foster then leads a reverse rondo designed to work the players’ passing and receiving skills, with a particular focus on a central player’s use of space to find room to receive. The players then move into a themed possession practice that coaches their ability to move in support of the ball, creating passing lanes while working in a unit. The session ends with a small-sided game in which the in-possession team must play a split pass before being allowed to progress into the opposition half and attack to goal.
