In this one-to-one session filmed exclusively for CV Academy, Cam Brooks of Pro Sports Academy – a leading private football-coaching provider based in southeast England – works with an Under-14 player on his finishing.

The session is specifically designed to train the ability of a wide player to manipulate the ball into appropriate shooting positions and improve their finishing skills. It consists of two practices in and around a penalty box, starting with a drill in which Brooks coaches the player to focus on their preparation, before attempting two different kinds of finishes. The first is a shot across goal, while the second sees the player cut inside to shoot on the other foot. The second practice is a progression played in a slightly larger area, in which two balls are used for different types of finish.

Brooks really hones in on the technical detail required to be successful with the variety of finishes practised, including body shape and ball-striking technique. It is a detailed session that demonstrates the benefits of one-to-one coaching, and we hope you enjoy it!
