The role of parents and carers through young players’ football journeys, no matter what the level, is crucially important. But what does that role look like, and what can parents and carers do to avoid falling into the kinds of behaviours and actions that can be detrimental to their child’s enjoyment of or progression in the game?

Dr Chris McCready is an athlete support specialist and former professional football player who, among other roles in elite sport, spent a number of years working in player care at Manchester United. In this presentation, he explores a number of themes and topics specific to parents and carers who are supporting young players through their football journey, and offers guidance to help them navigate each area.
