In his second coaching course filmed exclusively for CV Academy, Ian Baraclough takes a group of Loughborough University players through a series of practices designed to develop their understanding of attacking principles.

The session begins with a technical passing practice in which the players set up in a 3-5-2 and combine through the thirds – and against a set of mannequins in the same formation – before getting a shot off on goal. It progresses to an end-zone possession game in which teams of seven compete to progress the ball from one end of a tight playing area to the other, with the help of outside neutral players. A four-goal possession game develops the players’ understanding of how to progress play through the thirds into dangerous areas, before the session ends with an 11v11 game in which Baraclough encourages the players to employ the principles coached throughout.
