In this very special extended Masterclass that is exclusive to CV Academy, Ian Burchnall gives us an incredibly detailed insight into his work before, during and after his first game in charge of Östersunds FK in the Swedish Allsvenskan.
Burchnall succeeded Graham Potter in the summer of 2018 and took charge for the first time against title contenders Hammarby, after the league had returned after the World Cup. Here, he talks about the challenges he faced following such a successful manager, before revealing his approach in the week leading up to the fixture and his analysis of the opposition.
He then takes to the Coaches’ Voice tactics board to present his tactics for the game and, with the help of actual match footage, analyses how the game evolved and the changes he made during the 90 minutes that led to an important victory. Finally, he discusses his approach after the game, and how that forms part of his coaching philosophy.
