In this session filmed exclusively for CV Academy, Everton’s assistant head of coaching (foundation phase) James Dunn leads the club’s Under-9s through five practices. The session is designed to develop their ability to keep possession under back-pressure, manipulating the ball to create space to turn and build attacks.

The session begins with a video briefing that frames the activities for the children. Supported by academy coach Leyton McKay-Ellison, and goalkeeper coach Andy Johnston, the first practice is a fun warm-up game that introduces some key session principles. The second practice incorporates dribbling, turning and passing, focusing on key techniques to escape back-pressure. This rolls into a 1v1 practice, then a possession-based practice, before finishing off with a conditioned small-sided game.

It is an excellent, technical session that takes place in a fun environment, expertly overseen by Dunn and his Everton colleagues. We hope you enjoy it as much as the players did!
