Arsenal Under-12 head coach Kieron Lewis leads this ‘create to finish the attack – wide combinations’ session, which focuses on creating goalscoring opportunities.

The session – filmed exclusively for Coaches’ Voice – begins with an analysis meeting that helps to set the scene for the players. They are then taken through a warm-up, led by academy performance coach James Bevan, before splitting into two groups for technical practices that take place at the same time: a passing pattern, led by Lewis and academy coach Darren Hawks, and a rondo, led by under-12 to under-14 assistant coach Jack Kennedy and academy coach Aaron Cato.

Players remain in their groups for a further two practices. Lewis and Kennedy lead an attack-versus-defence function practice that is focused on breaking lines in wide areas and finishing. At the same time, Cato and Hawks lead a small-sided game focused on creating overloads in wide areas.

For the third practice, the groups come back together for a 10v10 game where players are challenged to think about the game in relation to the pictures created in the preceding practices. The session finishes with a ball-mastery passing practice.
