In this session filmed exclusively for CV Academy, Watford lead Under-21 coach Charlie Daniels and assistant coach Dan Gosling take a session that splits players into attacking and defensive units.

At one end of the pitch, Daniels leads a group of four attacking players in a finishing practice that involves five types of finish, in and around the penalty area. He demands that each attacker plays at match-speed, pitting them in competition with each other as well as having a goalkeeper to beat.

At the other end of the pitch, at the same time, Gosling leads his group through a wave practice focused on defending crosses. This includes attempting to prevent crosses at source, as well as defending different types of cross in the penalty area. Gosling’s group includes three full-backs, two centre-backs and a central-midfielder, and incorporates a focus on effective clearances and first passes after a regain.
