In this session filmed exclusively for CV Academy, before his departure to join Standard Liège as an assistant first-team coach, Yaya Touré led his Tottenham Under-16 team through a session designed to reinforce the principles that underpin maintaining possession and creating under high pressure.

Supported by Spurs youth-development-phase lead coach Joe Staunton, Touré took the players through three practices that train adopting the correct body position when receiving to play forwards, moving the ball quickly to find the spare player, and making space under pressure to shoot and score. The session begins with an unopposed technical passing practice that leads on to an 8v4 possession game, before ending with a 4v4 small-sided game played in a tight area with full-sized goals and goalkeepers.

It’s a fascinating session that features an elite player developing his own coaching skills at a top Premier League academy. We hope you enjoy it!
