Lee Johnson was named as head coach of Sunderland in December 2020. Before that, he had built his reputation with managerial spells at Oldham Athletic, Barnsley and, most recently, Bristol City.
In this session delivered exclusively for CV Academy, Johnson works on a team’s ability to retain possession but then react aggressively and effectively in the moment of defensive transition.
The session is comprised of two practices. The first is a transition-themed small-sided game with conditions to emphasise aggressive defending and attacking transitions. The second is a two-half possession/transition game led by Johnson’s assistant, Jamie McAllister.
